The present my mother gave me for my 12th birthday forever changed the trajectory of my life.  My mom had given my dad and I ski lessons at our local ski hill. A simple pastime became something that God used to rearrange my life. Instead of spending money on a letterman's jacket, I asked my parents for a snowboard jacket. Instead of an engineering degree in school, I graduated with a degree in Recreation. Instead of an internship in an office building, I went to a world-class ski resort in Lake Tahoe. It was in that action sports community that my wife and I found amazing people and a joint love for the culture and community, but a disheartening void of Gospel-centered light. We found that despite being in a place where the majesty, beauty and glory of God was evident in every square inch of the creation all around us, there was a huge Gospel void. People came every season to worship the creation with their own flavor of sport but disregarded any knowledge of the Creator. This is when our heart for the action sports community as a mission field truly took root. As our boys have grown up, they too have found their own love for many board sports as well. From snowboarding to skateboarding, to skimboarding or stand-up paddleboarding, you will often find the 4 of us on some board adventure together as a family. We are excited because the Lord is once again using action sports to rearrange our life, in the best way. 

While working at ski resorts, blueberry and blackberry farms, serving in the local church and most recently for a faith-based action sports camp, I have gained an eye for finding opportunities and building strengths within organizational staff and operations. This summer I will be stepping into a new opportunity by serving as the Director of Operations with Ride Nature at the Florida headquarters in Fort Myers, FL. Ride Nature is an action sports ministry with headquarters in Fort Myers, Florida, San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua and Oceanside, California. Their mission is dedicated to giving generously, proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ, and making disciples through action sports outreach, evangelism, and discipleship, both locally and globally. 

The calling to work with an organization like Ride Nature started all those years back when I was first introduced to the world of action sports, and specifically when my wife and I lived, worked, and played in the Lake Tahoe community. We have often thought, and have truly felt, the need for Gospel-centered communities in places like Lake Tahoe and within the action sports world. Our time in California would have been much different had this type of community been present. We also know that God has been growing and guiding us by using every experience along the way to prepare us for this new calling.  

We are hoping you would consider partnering alongside my family and I as we give our time and efforts to planting Light-shining people in action sports communities around the globe that are dark and void of Christ-centered community. Your financial support will ensure that there will be Gospel-centered relationships, community and conversations happening on ski slopes, skateparks, MTB trails, surf breaks, wakeboard parks, coffee shops, and businesses within the action sports realm.  Will you do your part in supporting the Gospel message to the ends?
